An inner circle separates the central portrait from a broad outer border densely populated with a continuous frieze of heraldic shields representing the various dominions of the Swedish crown, separated by small crosses. The circular legend runs between the inner beaded ring and the outer rim, reading IOHANNES 3 D G SWECORVM GOTORVAN f RX, identifying Johann III by the grace of God as King of Sweden, the Goths and the Wends. |
