| Obverse description | Central trident within a beaded circle, with the Malayalam era date 991 (equivalent to 1816 AD) inscribed in Tamil numerals below the trident in the field. The Malayalam calendar, originating in 825 AD, places this issue firmly in the early nineteenth century. The design is austere and symbolic, with the trident as the principal device dominating the flan. |
