Gowri Parvathi Bayi assumed the regency of Travancore in 1815 at around sixteen years of age, governing on behalf of her younger brother until his majority. Her tenure was short — she died in 1829 — but administratively consequential, marked by early reformist policies that would influence the kingdom well into the nineteenth century. This copper issue falls within the opening year of that regency, making it among the earliest coinage struck under her authority.
