| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare-headed, wigged bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque portrait style typical of early 18th-century Portuguese colonial coinage. The king's long curled periwig falls to the shoulder, and the truncation of the neck is visible at the base. Below the bust, the mint mark 'M' for Vila Rica and the date are struck in the lower field. The circumferential Latin legend reads IOANNES.V.D.G.PORT.ET ALG.REX, separated by pellets, running clockwise around the entire obverse within a toothed border. |
