Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of King Christian VII facing right, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style. The king's hair is elaborately dressed in the late 18th-century fashion, tied at the nape with a ribbon and curled at the sides. A small mint-master mark 'B' appears at the base of the bust. The circular Latin legend surrounding the effigy reads CHRISTIANVS VII D G DANN NOR V G REX, denoting his royal titles as King of Denmark, Norway, the Wends and the Goths by the Grace of God.

Additional information

The 32 skilling denomination sits at an awkward intersection of Denmark's monetary history — large enough to require significant silver but never fully integrated into the later rigsdaler system that rationalized Danish coinage in the 1780s. Christian VII's reign was effectively administered by others for most of its duration; by 1775 the king was already exhibiting the severe mental illness that would eventually leave Johann Friedrich Struensee and later the crown prince's regency council holding real power.

KM#627 is not commonly encountered in problem-free surfaces, as the .562 fineness alloy proved prone to streaky die flow on larger flans.
