This piece belongs to a peculiar modern phenomenon: the African sovereign gold micro-coin, issued under licensing arrangements with European bullion distributors rather than driven by any domestic monetary need. Chad's participation in these programs is largely nominal — the franc CFA zone itself is administered by the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale, leaving individual member states with limited independent minting tradition. At 0.06 grams, the gold content is fractional to the point of near-symbolism.
