Obverse description Effigy of King Charles III facing left, uncrowned, as designed for the first portrait of his reign. Above the effigy appears a privy mark depicting a wedge-tailed eagle in descent, wings partially folded, about to alight upon the branch of a bare, dead tree. The surrounding legend bears the monarch's name, the issuing country, the denomination, and the designer's initials. The portrait and privy mark are rendered in ultra high relief against a frosted or mirrored field characteristic of the reverse proof finish.
