Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features the national emblem of the People's Republic of China, depicting Tiananmen Gate surmounted by a large five-pointed star flanked by four smaller stars, encircled by a wreath of ears of grain with a cogwheel at the base. The circular legend reads 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) in Chinese characters arranged around the upper periphery. The date 2016 appears in the lower exergue in Latin numerals. The design is struck in sharp proof relief against a mirror-polished field.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a highly detailed proof rendition of the celebrated Reclining Buddha (Parinirvana) scene from the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Chongqing. The monumental reclining figure of Sakyamuni Buddha dominates the composition, shown lying in peaceful repose with attendant figures rendered in low relief below and beside him, faithfully reproducing the sculptural grandeur of the Tang and Song dynasty carvings. The upper field bears the inscription 大足石刻·释迦涅槃圣迹图 in Chinese characters identifying the depicted scene. The denomination 300元 is inscribed in the lower right field, with 中国大足石刻 appearing along the lower periphery. The intricate rock-face texture and deeply sculpted figural details are rendered with exceptional artistry in frosted relief against a polished background.

Aanvullende informatie

The Dazu Rock Carvings, distributed across more than 75 sites in Chongqing municipality, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999 — one of the few Chinese sites recognized primarily for the density and narrative sophistication of its Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian iconography rather than architectural scale. The largest concentration at Baodingshan was orchestrated over roughly 70 years by the monk Zhao Zhifeng beginning around 1174, an unusually coordinated program for medieval rock-cut art.

The 1-kilogram format was by 2016 a well-established vehicle for China's high-relief cultural heritage series, with collector demand driven largely by the secondary market in Hong Kong and Singapore.
