The monumental reclining figure of Sakyamuni Buddha dominates the composition, shown lying in peaceful repose with attendant figures rendered in low relief below and beside him, faithfully reproducing the sculptural grandeur of the Tang and Song dynasty carvings. The upper field bears the inscription 大足石刻·释迦涅槃圣迹图 in Chinese characters identifying the depicted scene. The denomination 300元 is inscribed in the lower right field, with 中国大足石刻 appearing along the lower periphery.
