Obverse description The national emblem of Bhutan — an intricate circular mandala-like design featuring the Khorlo (dharma wheel) at centre, surrounded by lotus petals, jewels, and intertwined dragons — occupies the central field within a raised border. The legend KINGDOM OF BHUTAN arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the date 1997 appears twice flanking the emblem at the mid-field. The Dzongkha inscription འབྲུག་ཡུལ།། (Druk Yul, meaning Land of the Thunder Dragon) is rendered in Tibetan script along the lower arc.
