背面描述 Printed in violet, the reverse bears a central vignette of a figure in period dress — understood to represent Afonso de Albuquerque — standing on a quayside and surveying a fleet of Portuguese caravel sailing ships at sea. The bank seal appears to the left, with a plain oval watermark window to the right. The value numeral 300 is shown in large letterpress at lower left, with the denomination in full at lower right.

备注

The Banco Nacional Ultramarino was a Lisbon-based institution with a Portuguese colonial banking mandate stretching across Africa and Asia, and this note was almost certainly issued for circulation in one of those territories rather than metropolitan Portugal — though the specific colony is not identified in the Pick reference for P#44. BNU held a monopoly on note issue across multiple territories simultaneously, printing different series through the same London printer, which occasionally leads to misattribution between issues.

Thomas De La Rue's involvement here is straightforward contract work, nothing unusual for the period. The watermark is the sole security feature — modest by 1959 standards.
