Additional information

Manuel Pinto de Fonseca held the Grand Mastership longer than any other in the Order's history — 32 years, from 1741 until his death in 1773 at the reported age of 92. His coinage reflects an administration of unusual continuity for an institution that changed leadership frequently throughout the 18th century. The 30 Tari denomination was the Order's primary large silver issue, struck at the Valletta mint and circulating alongside the currencies of surrounding Mediterranean powers.

The three-year window on this piece likely reflects a die preparation or mintage campaign boundary rather than a political event.
