| Opis rewersu | The denomination '30 R' is prominently displayed in large raised characters at the centre of the field, with '30' above and the abbreviation 'R' (for Réis) below. The central inscription is enclosed within a wreath of laurel or olive branches tied at the base, whose sprays curve symmetrically upward on either side to meet at the top. A dotted border encircles the entire design. The field is otherwise plain, giving strong visual emphasis to the denomination. The reverse design follows the standard typology employed for Portuguese Indian copper coinage of the mid-nineteenth century. |

Pedro V ascended the Portuguese throne at fifteen and died of cholera at twenty-four, making his reign one of the shortest of the Braganza dynasty. Coinage struck under his name for Portuguese India reflects the administrative peculiarity of Damão as a mint: a coastal enclave dependent on Lisbon for monetary policy but operating with considerable practical autonomy in execution, which produced measurable inconsistencies across issues of this type.
The ½ Tanga denomination bridged the Portuguese réis system and the indigenous monetary reckoning still dominant in local trade.
