Obverse description Central field displays the crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms within a square shield, featuring the characteristic quinas (five escutcheons) arrangement. The shield is flanked on either side by laurel or olive branches extending from the base, forming a wreath-like frame. The date 1854 appears in the lower portion of the field beneath the shield. A dotted border runs along the coin's periphery. The overall design is executed in low relief consistent with hammered coinage produced at the Damão Mint.
