Comments

Ruprechtshofen is a small market town in Lower Austria, and this 30 Heller note is a product of the postwar Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921. The collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left local governments scrambling to plug a chronic shortage of small-denomination coins — the federal authorities simply could not keep pace with demand, so thousands of communes issued their own emergency paper.

Signed by Aigenbauer and Hackner, almost certainly the Bürgermeister and a municipal treasurer or council official. The two-signature requirement was a common local safeguard against unauthorized issue.
