A two-column verse in Gothic script reads at the top: 'Gib, o Herr, Uns täglich Brot / In dieser Zeit Der schwersten Not.' The main body carries the redemption text stating the municipality's resolution of 9 May 1920 to issue vouchers totalling 60,000 Kronen, redeemable at the municipal treasury. A large red overprint 'UNGÜLTIG' (invalid) crosses the central text. Kirchham bei Gmunden is a small Upper Austrian municipality, and this 30 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept through Austria following the First World War — a period when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted, and local authorities were left to improvise. L. Haase in Linz handled the printing, a regional firm that produced Notgeld for numerous Upper Austrian communities during this period. The two signatories, Ursprunger and Rauscher, were almost certainly local council officials rather than banking functionaries.
