Gunskirchen is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 30 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities from 1920 onward as postwar inflation gutted the purchasing power of official coinage. Small denominations in metal had effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply worth less than the effort to produce them — and hundreds of towns printed their own emergency paper to fill the gap. Gunskirchen was one of the smaller issuers, and the series it produced attracted little collector attention at the time of issue.
Signed by Joh. Brandstätter, almost certainly the sitting Bürgermeister or a designated municipal official at the time of authorization.
