Holy Etchmiadzin, outside Vagharshapat, is generally accepted as the oldest state-built church in the world, constructed after Armenia's adoption of Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD — the first nation to do so. The Central Bank's large-format silver issues in this series have typically commemorated sites on Armenia's UNESCO World Heritage list; Etchmiadzin received that designation in 2000 alongside the archaeological remains at Zvartnots.
At a kilogram of .999 silver struck to 100mm, these pieces are produced in very limited quantities and trade almost exclusively among specialist collectors of Armenian numismatica rather than through mainstream channels.
