| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field depicts the Nehushtan — the brazen serpent of Moses — mounted upon a tall cross or pole, serving as the Old Testament typological prefiguration of the Crucifixion. Flanking the pole to the left and right are twelve kneeling and praying figures in supplication. In the lower field, four dying men are depicted prostrate upon the ground, afflicted by five fiery flying serpents attacking from above, referencing the plague narrative of Numbers 21. A multi-line legend in early New High German runs through the field, quoting the divine command to Moses to fashion and erect the serpent as a sign of salvation. |
