The Vitebsk railway station in Moscow, completed in 1904, was the terminus of the first railway line built in the Russian Empire — the Tsarskoye Selo Railroad, opened in 1837. The commemorative was issued as part of Russia's long-running architectural monuments series, which the Bank of Russia has used since the 1990s to document historically significant structures across the federation. The station's Style Moderne facade, designed by Stanislav Brvullov, survived both Soviet-era renovation pressure and wartime damage largely intact.
