The fineness designation Ag 925 appears to the lower left and the weight indicator 31,1 to the lower right, accompanied by the Saint Petersburg Mint mark (СПМД) beneath it. The three-rouble denomination has been used by the Bank of Russia almost exclusively for commemorative silver issues since the early 1990s, functioning as a collector vehicle rather than a circulating denomination. This particular issue commemorates the Imperial Crown of Russia, the principal coronation crown used at every Russian imperial coronation from Catherine the Great in 1762 through Nicholas II in 1896 — eight coronations in total.
The crown itself survives in the Kremlin Armoury, having never left Russia.
