The Northwest Front Field Treasury notes were issued under the authority of the Northwestern Government — the short-lived anti-Bolshevik administration backed by General Yudenich's forces during their two offensives toward Petrograd in 1919. Yudenich's autumn push came within striking distance of the city before collapsing in November, and the government itself dissolved in late December. The currency barely outlasted the campaign.
Stepan Lianozov served as the civilian premier and finance minister; his co-signature with Yudenich on these notes reflects the unusual dual military-civilian authority structure of the Northwestern Government. That arrangement lasted roughly three months.
