| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents relief depictions of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin and the Tiananmen Gate in Beijing, positioned symmetrically across the field to symbolise the bilateral relationship. Between and below the architectural motifs, a five-line inscription reads 70 ЛЕТ ДИПЛОМАТИЧЕСКИМ ОТНОШЕНИЯМ РОССИЯ—КНР, commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and the People's Republic of China. The border is elaborately decorated with an alternating design combining 16th-century Russian ornamental patterns and stylised Chinese floral motifs, underscoring the cultural dialogue between the two nations. |

Russia and China formally established diplomatic relations on October 2, 1949 — the day after the People's Republic was proclaimed — making the USSR the first country to recognize the new government. The 2019 issue marks seventy years from that moment, a relationship that has oscillated between ideological alliance, open border conflict (the 1969 Sino-Soviet clashes on the Ussuri River nearly triggered a broader war), and the strategic partnership that has defined both nations' foreign policy positioning since the 1990s.
