| Beschrijving voorzijde | Plain typeset note framed by a narrow ornamental border of floral and rosette devices running along the left side and across the top and bottom. The denomination 'Tre Rigsbank-Skilling' is set in Gothic blackletter script at the head of the note, followed by a multi-line redemption text in Danish, concluding with the place and date 'Christiania 1814' in roman type. A manuscript serial number and a handwritten signature appear at the lower portion of the note. |

Norges Midlertidige Rigsbank — the "Temporary" State Bank — was established in January 1814 as Norway moved toward its brief union with Denmark's dissolution and eventual Swedish rule. The bank existed in a constitutional vacuum: notes were issued before Norway had a permanent central bank, before the krone existed as a concept, and before the political settlement with Sweden was finalized. This 3 Rigsbank-Skilling is among the smallest denominations that institution ever produced.
Printed locally in Christiania under constrained wartime conditions, the note relied on a watermark as its primary — and essentially only — anti-counterfeiting measure. The Rigsbank was dissolved in 1816 when Norges Bank was formally established, making the entire issue's lifespan under two years.
