Reverse description Central device consists of the Riga city arms: a crowned orb with a cross above, enclosed within a circular frame, with the denomination numeral 24 (indicating 1/24 Thaler) displayed beneath the crown within the orb, and the value numeral 3 (for 3 Polker) placed below the central device. The date is split and incorporated into the surrounding Latin legend. The peripheral legend MON : NOV - CIV : RIG : 17 - 01 24 3 identifies this as a new municipal coinage of the City of Riga, with the date 1701 divided around the design, consistent with the hammered coinage technique of the period.
