| Obverse description | Central field features the elaborate interlaced cypher monogram of Archbishop Johann Friedrich Carl von Ostein, rendered in ornate Baroque calligraphic style. The monogram is surmounted by an ecclesiastical Electoral crown topped with a cross. Below the monogram, a crossed sword and scepter — symbols of temporal and spiritual authority — are superimposed over the six-spoked wheel of Mainz, the heraldic emblem of the archbishopric. The coin rim is bordered by a continuous milled or rope-like decorative edge. |
