Obverse description Central field dominated by an elaborate interlaced script cypher 'FR' (Fridericus Rex) rendered in ornate Baroque calligraphic style, formed by the intertwining of the letters F and R with foliate and scrollwork flourishes. The monogram is surmounted by a large royal crown with arched bands and jewelled base. The rim is defined by a fine toothed or beaded border. No peripheral legend is present; the monogram fills the entire field.

Reverse description Four-line inscription occupying the central field, reading the denomination and coin type in abbreviated German. The numeral '3' appears prominently at the top of the inscription, flanked by rosette ornaments. Below follow the lines 'PFEN.', 'SCHEIDE', and 'MUNZ.', with the date '17 D 63' on the lowest line, the mint mark 'D' (for Aurich) interposed between the two halves of the date. The lettering is in plain capital Roman characters with period stops, set within a plain field.
