| 正面铭文 | REPUBLICA DE CUBA TRES PESOS (Translation: Republic of Cuba Three Pesos) |
| 背面描述 | A bold portrait bust of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara faces left in the central field, rendered in high relief and capturing the revolutionary's characteristic beret bearing a five-pointed star. The legend PATRIA O MUERTE curves along the upper rim. The date of issue appears in the exergue below the portrait. An inner ring of beads runs close to the rim, framing the entire design. |

Cuba issued this coin during a period of acute economic deterioration — the Soviet Union's collapse was already underway, and Havana was about to lose the subsidized oil, food imports, and trade arrangements that had underpinned the economy for three decades. The "Special Period in Time of Peace," declared by Castro in 1990, followed almost immediately. Circulating a coin bearing Guevara's image at that precise moment carried an unmistakable ideological charge: a reaffirmation of revolutionary credentials precisely when the material basis for Cuban socialism was disintegrating.
