Reverse description The reverse carries a panoramic townscape vignette of Salzwedel rendered in a coloured engraving style after an early map or veduta, with a windmill in the foreground left, rolling green fields, and the town's characteristic skyline of multiple church spires and red-roofed houses extending across the middle ground. The denomination '3 Mark' appears in Fraktur at both upper corners, with the city name 'Salzwedel' in large Gothic lettering in the lower decorative panel. An artist's attribution inscription 'nach Merian' appears in the lower right of the vignette, referencing the Merian topographic tradition.

Salzwedel is a small Altmark town in what is now Saxony-Anhalt, and its municipal government issued this 3 Mark note during the notgeld crisis of 1921 — a period when the Reichsbank's inability to supply adequate small-denomination currency pushed hundreds of German municipalities into printing their own. The Magistrat here turned to Louis Koch in Halberstadt, a regional commercial printer with no particular numismatic pedigree, which is exactly the kind of workaday arrangement that defined most third-tier notgeld production.

The DeNG reference suffix "6/6" indicates this is the last in a series of six denominations or variants issued under this authorization.
