Maria Theresia inherited the Habsburg lands in 1740 under immediate military challenge — the War of the Austrian Succession consumed the first eight years of her reign and left imperial finances badly strained. The small-denomination silver coinage of the early 1750s was part of a broader monetary reorganization as her administration worked to stabilize currency across the hereditary lands following the peace of 1748. The Graz mint, operating in Styria, served the southern Austrian territories and struck alongside Vienna and Hall during this period.
