Reverse description A standing female allegorical figure, personifying the province of West Friesland or Liberty, occupies the center of the field in high relief. She is draped in flowing robes and holds aloft a hat or liberty cap on a long staff in her raised right hand, while her left arm rests upon an ornate cartouche or altar bearing decorative elements. Her hair is elaborately dressed in the late Baroque fashion. The circular legend HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR (meaning 'On her we lean, her we protect') frames the figure within a finely milled border.
