Issued under Tsar Nicholas I in his capacity as King of Poland — a dual role established by the Congress of Vienna in 1815 — these copper grosze were struck at the Warsaw Mint during a period of uneasy autonomy. The Kingdom of Poland retained its own currency, diet, and army, a situation that would end violently with the November Uprising of 1830. Production of this type ceased just three years before that revolt.
