| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features a richly detailed naturalistic scene depicting multiple Austrian wildlife species rendered in a stylized relief against a textured field. Animals including a bear, deer, fox, beaver, and various birds are depicted across different habitat zones, from forest to wetland, arranged in a layered panoramic composition. The legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 3 EURO is inscribed along the lower portion of the field. The design, engraved by Helmut Andexlinger, reflects the Austrian Mint's characteristic high-relief illustrative style used throughout the animal series. |

Austria's 3-euro denomination was introduced in 2017 as an explicitly collectible series, priced at face value to drive public engagement with numismatics. The owl theme continued a run of annual animal issues designed to appeal to younger collectors and casual buyers rather than the secondary market. The unconventional face value — chosen precisely because it has no practical monetary use — means virtually none entered circulation.
