Boris Pahor spent years on a list of banned authors in Yugoslavia — his 1967 novel Nekropola, drawn from his survival of four Nazi concentration camps, was suppressed by Tito's government for its refusal to subordinate personal memory to ideological narrative. He lived to 108, dying in 2022, and this coin was issued the following year as a commemorative shortly after his death.
