Additional information

Trois-Pistoles issued this three-dollar piece as part of a wave of Canadian municipal currency that flourished in the early 2000s, largely enabled by a legal grey area allowing local governments to produce trade tokens redeemable within their own commercial networks. The Pont Haubanée — a cable-stayed bridge completed in 1998 linking Trois-Pistoles to the south shore of the St. Lawrence — was still a point of local pride at the time of issue, having replaced a seasonal ferry crossing that many residents had used for generations.
