The composition is typical of the Emerita colonial coinage associated with Augustus's veteran settlement program in Lusitania. The standards and central eagle are rendered in strong, schematic lines with interlocking decorative elements visible on the shaft. Traces of a surrounding Latin legend are visible along the rim, though heavily worn and largely illegible on this example.
