The surrounding legend, interspersed with rosette and cross stops, reads GODT BEHOEDE LEYDEN followed by the abbreviated Latin formula N O V L S G I P A, attesting to the siege coinage issued under the authority of the Prince of Orange. The rhomboid flan exhibits the characteristic irregular hammered surface of emergency coinage, with the design area occupying a circular field at centre. |
