| Description de l’avers | Central field bears the crowned arms of Leiden — a shield displaying two crossed keys — set within an ornate cartouche with scrollwork and foliate mantling surmounted by a crown. The armorial shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, interspersed with rosette and cross stops, reads GODT BEHOEDE LEYDEN followed by the abbreviated Latin formula N O V L S G I P A, attesting to the siege coinage issued under the authority of the Prince of Orange. The rhomboid flan exhibits the characteristic irregular hammered surface of emergency coinage, with the design area occupying a circular field at centre. |

| Description du revers | Central field depicts the rampant Dutch lion passant, crowned and holding a bundle of arrows or staff, facing right, with the date 1574 divided to either side of the figure. The lion is rendered in bold relief within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads HAEC LIBERTATIS ERGO, a defiant proclamation of the city's resistance during the Spanish siege. The overall composition is characteristic of the hastily produced klippenform emergency issues struck by the besieged city authorities from available gold and silver materials. |
