| Obverse description | Central field bears the crowned arms of Leiden — a shield displaying two crossed keys — set within an ornate cartouche with scrollwork and foliate mantling surmounted by a crown. The armorial shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, interspersed with rosette and cross stops, reads GODT BEHOEDE LEYDEN followed by the abbreviated Latin formula N O V L S G I P A, attesting to the siege coinage issued under the authority of the Prince of Orange. The rhomboid flan exhibits the characteristic irregular hammered surface of emergency coinage, with the design area occupying a circular field at centre. |
