Obverse description Central field occupied by the quartered arms of Groningen and the Ommelanden, depicting in the upper-left quarter a diagonal pattern of ermine spots, in the upper-right an eagle displayed, in the lower-left a repeat of the eagle, and in the lower-right a repeat of the ermine pattern; the shield is surmounted by an elaborate foliate and floral crown. The denomination numeral '28' appears to the left of the shield and 'ST' to the right, indicating 28 Stuivers. A beaded border frames the entire design, with the circular Latin legend distributed around the periphery reading FLOR · ARGENT · ORD · GRON · EN · OMLAN 28 ST, interrupted by a small floral ornament.

Reverse description Facing left, the armored bust of a warrior or personification of Liberty rendered in bold relief, wearing a plumed hat and gorget with elaborately detailed cuirass. The figure occupies the majority of the central field, with the mint date appearing in two digits to the right of the bust within the field. A beaded outer border contains the circular Latin legend LIBERTAS · AVRO · PRETIOSIOR · OMNI · BELGICA, proclaiming that liberty is more precious than all the gold of the Netherlands, distributed around the full periphery of the coin.
