Lollius served as one of the Roman magistrates overseeing Crete et Cyrene after Augustus — then still Octavian — reorganized the province following the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra. Cnossus, refounded as a Roman colony (Colonia Iulia Nobilis Cnossus) likely under Caesar, was among the few Cretan cities with the institutional standing to produce civic bronze under named magistrates. The bilingual abbreviation pairing Latin and Greek lettering on this issue reflects the administrative reality of a Roman colony embedded in a predominantly Greek-speaking island.
