The duoviri named in this coin's legend, Allienvs and Marivs, were local magistrates exercising the kind of civic authority Rome deliberately exported to compliant provincial towns as a mechanism of Romanization. Their names suggest Italian settler or freedman ancestry grafted onto local administration.
