| Aversbeschreibung | The Somali national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a vertically striped shield bearing a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant on either side, with crossed palm fronds and a scroll below. Somalia had no functional central government in 1998 — the state had collapsed in 1991 and would not reconstitute meaningful authority for years. These novelty issues were licensed through private intermediaries exploiting Somalia's nominal sovereignty to produce collectibles timed to the release of James Cameron's film. The Titanic sank in April 1912; the coin commemorates neither a Somali connection to the disaster nor any historical anniversary of note.
