Opmerkingen

By 1977, Italy's chronic shortage of small-denomination coinage had persisted for nearly a decade, forcing local savings banks, municipalities, and even businesses to issue their own fiduciary notes as substitutes. The Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto was among the provincial institutions that responded with formally printed miniassegni — technically cheques, legally callable on demand, but used in daily commerce exactly like change.

Printed locally by Tipografia Stampa Rapida rather than one of the major security printers, this 250 Lire piece sits at the higher end of the miniassegni denominations that circulated through Trentino shops and markets during this period.
