Banque du Liban introduced this denomination during Lebanon's post-civil war monetary stabilization, as the country rebuilt its financial infrastructure following fifteen years of conflict that had rendered earlier coinage essentially worthless in real terms. The thicker specification distinguishes this from an earlier variant of the same type — a manufacturing adjustment made to improve durability in a currency that was, for the first time in years, expected to actually circulate.
