| Obverse description | Central field displays the elaborate calligraphic toughra of Sultan Abdülhamid II, flanked above by two small stars. Below the toughra, the regnal year appears in Arabic numerals to the left, with the denomination value to the right. The epithet 'el-Ghazi' (the Warrior) appears to the right of the toughra. The entire device is encircled by a finely detailed olive and laurel wreath, with the whole composition executed in high relief on a smooth field typical of late Ottoman gold coinage. |

Abdülhamid II's gold issues from this period were minted at the Constantinople (Dersaadet) mint during a reign defined by relentless external pressure — the Ottoman treasury was so compromised by the 1875 debt default and subsequent Russo-Turkish War indemnities that the Public Debt Administration, staffed largely by European creditors, was administering Ottoman revenues directly by the time these pieces entered circulation. That a coin of this weight and fineness was being struck at all reflects the sultan's deliberate effort to project fiscal credibility he did not fully possess.
The regnal year system on Ottoman coins of this type means the date on the coin marks Abdülhamid's accession year (1293 AH), with a separate struck numeral indicating the year of reign — a detail that determines precise dating within the 1886–1908 window.
