Obverse description The brass centre features the denomination numeral '250' in large digits at centre, overlaid upon a stylised spray of millet or sorghum stalks radiating outward across the field. The word 'FRANCS' appears in the lower centre below the numeral. The surrounding copper-nickel ring bears the circular legend 'BANQUE CENTRALE DES ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST' and a small mint privy mark of the Monnaie de Paris appears at the bottom of the ring.

Reverse description The brass centre displays the stylised emblem of the West African Monetary Union — a stylised mask or face motif superimposed over a relief map of the African continent — rendered in bold, angular lines. The date of issue appears in the lower portion of the centre field. The copper-nickel ring carries the circular legend 'UNION MONETAIRE OUEST-AFRICAINE' and a small mint privy mark at the bottom.
