Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a highly detailed allegorical composition commemorating the March 11, 1970 Peace Agreement with the Kurds. At the centre, the inscription 11 آذار 1970 (11 March 1970) appears within a sunburst of radiating rays. Above the inscription, a dove of peace is depicted in flight carrying an olive branch. The central motif is surrounded by an elaborate wreath composed of a wheat ear on the left and what appears to be an industrial or architectural element on the right, all enclosed within a decorative stepped geometric border in the style of traditional Iraqi ornamentation. A beaded inner border and a toothed outer rim frame the entire design.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the March 1970 Manifesto, in which the Ba'athist government under Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr formally agreed to Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq. The agreement — negotiated largely with Mustafa Barzani — promised Kurdish self-rule within four years and represented a genuine, if ultimately short-lived, détente after years of armed conflict.

The autonomy was never implemented. By 1974 Baghdad had unilaterally imposed a far narrower arrangement, war resumed almost immediately, and Barzani's movement collapsed the following year after Iran withdrew its support under the Algiers Accord.
