| 裏面の説明 | The reverse displays a finely detailed composition of three fruiting date palms (Phoenix dactylifera) rendered in high relief, the central tree taller and flanked symmetrically by two shorter specimens, all bearing clusters of dates among their fronds. A row of additional date palms recedes into the middle ground on both sides, suggesting a traditional Iraqi palm grove. The ground line and root bases of the trees are visible at the lower field. To the left and right of the central design, the Hijri year '١٣٩٢' and the Gregorian year '١٩٧٢' are inscribed in Eastern Arabic numerals respectively. A beaded border encircles the entire design. |

Issued to mark the fifth anniversary of the Ba'ath Party's consolidation of power following the July 1968 coup — a takeover engineered largely by Ahmad Hassan al-Bakr and a then-rising Saddam Hussein. The party had briefly held power in 1963 before being ousted within months; 1968 was the second attempt, and it stuck.
Iraq's oil nationalization the same year, with the Iraq Petroleum Company brought under state control in June 1972, gave the regime both revenue and a political narrative worth commemorating in metal.
