The quartered shield incorporates the Southern Cross stars in the first quarter, three sailing ships on a paly field in the second and third quarters, a golden fleece in the upper right, a sheaf of wheat and scallop shell in the lower left, and crossed mining tools in the lower right. The shield is flanked on each side by a sprig of silver fern. The legend NIUE appears to the left and the date 1989 to the right, both arcing along the upper periphery of the field. |
